Abstract(in English) Flow-based metering function of switch or router is an effective method for several applications, such as monitoring network behavior, denial-of-service attack detection and usage-based billing. In this paper, we propose a flow-based metering function that can collect flow statistics with optimum accuracy for each application. Low cost metering function is proposed with using two or more flow tables whose search performances differ, and selecting a flow table appropriate for flow statistics information in each application. The function can collect several 10k flow statistics without packet sampling, and several Mega flow statistics with packet sampling, without any degradation in performance for high-end switch or router that accommodates high-speed circuits, such as 10Gbit Ethernet.
