A Contention-based Reservation Protocol Taking into Account Message-length for High Throughput in WDM Single-hop Network

Abstract(in English) In a WDM single-hop network using a passive star coupler, a contention-based reservation protocol is proposed by using mini-slot control channels for wavelength assignment. The legacy protocols have a problem of low throughput for short-length messages because of the collision of a control packet. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which reduces the collisions of control packets to improve throughput when a short message occurs mostly. By the proposed algorithm, a load state is presumed by the number of times of a collision of the control packet which already reached the control node, and the node of a reservation state is changed into the state waiting for resending by the probability made by the load state. Therefore, transmission of a control packet is controlled corresponding to the load state of a network, and a synthetic throughput improves by reducing the collision probability of a control packet. It checked attaining the purpose by proposed algorithm by the simulation result.
