Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper discusses an architecture of the terrestrial network contributing to high-speed packet transfer in a micro-cellular network, which is based on a logical macro-cell concept. Down stream packets are multicast to the micro-cells in a logical macro-cell through the terrestrial network to avoid re-transfer packets in the handover procedure. The ACK information is broadcast to the micro-cells to synchronize the packet transfer procedures in each logical macro-cell. Polling is cast to every cell in each logical macro-cell, and a base station which received ACK response is responsible for each packet transfer cycle. The terrestrial network is required to efficiently multicast the ACK information. Use of modified ATM-PON (Passive Optical Network) is shown as the terrestrial network. The multicast information is piggy-backed on a data cell.
