Available-Bandwidth Estimation with Dynamic Parameter Adjustment for TCP over Wired-Wireless Networks

Abstract(in English) We have proposed a TCP performance improvement algorithm in wired-wireless network environment especially for high speed transmission of small-sized file like Web documents. In the proposed algorithm, available bandwidth of network is well estimated with time intervals between consecutive ACKs. With the estimates, the congestion control in the proposed method adapts to the state of wireless link and prevents throughput degradation. A simple filter is used for available bandwidth estimation and dynamic adjusting of filter parameter according to the state of wireless link improves the throughput of small-sized file transmission. In this paper, we investigate fairness among multiple TCP connections and friendliness with TCP Reno by simulation and discuss the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
