Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, many proposals of overlay networks have been made to enhance network capability, such as, multicast and QoS control, without changing underlying IP network. In this paper, we propose a new transport layer control for throughput guarantee between nodes in TCP overlay networks, in which nodes are connected by the transport layer connections and end-to-end TCP connections are relayed through them. In our method, we model cross-traffic flows as an aggregation of many TCP flows. Based on the model, we derive the optimal congestion window size and let target flows to maintain it regardless of the congestion at the bottleneck link. This ignorance of the congestion will causes severe packet losses and will results in poor throughput due to TCP timeouts. Our method avoids this by letting sender keep retransmitting packets without waiting TCP timeouts. With quantitative simulation results, we demonstrate that our method can guarantee the throughput of the target flows without requiring the QoS mechanisms in routes.
