Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we discuss performance of TCP over wireless link with ARQ-based error control. It is well known that ARQ is effective to improve the performance of TCP in static situation where a wireless terminal accesses to a fixed base station. However, it is not always effective in a situation where handovers occur because packets buffered in a link layer buffer at a base station may be discarded when handovers occur. Computer simulation results show that the handover degrades the performance of TCP depending on the max retransmission count of ARQ, which specifies error control capability of ARQ. Our results indicate that the wireless protocol should be carefully designed with taking account of interaction of funtionalities aiming for improvement of wireless communications in different layers.
