Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) -In the conventional IEEE802.11 wireless LAN, to communicate with the wired network, what we can use now is only infrastructure mode using only one AP (Access point). Due to the restriction of radio power, the communication area is limited. To expand the communication area, we proposed to extend conventional topology to two hops, in which so-called stations relay packets between AP and Ad-hoc terminals. RTS-CTS mechanism is used to avoid the hidden node problem in the conventional wireless LAN, but the collisions between RTS-CTS themselves cannot be ignored at all. Collisions between RTS-CTS may result in continuous collisions, which degrade the performance. This kind of problem even deteriorates in our proposed topology. In order to solve this kind of problem, we propose a mechanism called time-division DCF (TD-DCF). In this scheme one period is divided into two sections, with one for AP-Station hop, and the other for Station-Ad-hoc nodes hop to communicate separately. We evaluate the throughput performance and delay performance by computer simulation, and the results show that our proposal is capable of avoiding continuous collisions effectively and improving performances drastically.
