Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Towards Mobile Computing, while the demand of wireless LAN is rapidly increasing with the spread of mobile computing devices, the power consumption of IEEE802.11 wireless LAN is taken up as a serious problem. Although IEEE802.11 power-saving mode (PSM) reduces the power consumption of IEEE802.11 wireless LAN greatly, it has a problem that it can harm the performance of TCP application including Web browsing, E-mail, FTP, etc. In this paper, we pay attention to good compatibility between TCP proxy and PSM, so we show an approach that improves the throughput of PSM with the power consumption of PSM maintained by adding the function of TCP proxy to Access Point. We implemented our approach in various network and report the result that our approach reduces file retrieval times of PSM (by about 55% at the maximum).
