Abstract(in English) | In this small article, we present perspectives on the future photonic Internet. We first introduce four kinds of Internet architecture based on the WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. Those include (1) WDM link network where adjacent routers are connected by the WDM link, (2) WDM path network where the logical topology is established by the lightpaths connecting the edge nodes, (3) optical bust switching network, and (4) optical packet switching network. Advantages/disadvantages and research topics of those networks are thoroughly reviewed. The roadmap towards the photonic Internet is then discussed. Finally, we present another network architecture in which the lightpath is open to the end-users (not to edge nodes). |
