Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The demand for the QoS in the Internet, growing heterogeneity of networks, development of more complex routing protocols, various network-based multimedia applications, require knowledge of the bandwidth to be able to operate. Routing devices and protocols are devised with the requirement of prompt forwarding of packets and cannot bear the overhead of including bandwidth information in headers or perform any extra operations with it. Therefore, probing is required to learn of the bottlenecks along a defined path. We defined a dynamic method that probes a path to learn of its bottleneck bandwidth and strives to impose no extra overhead by changing probing parameters, such as packet size and probing frequency. Simulated results are studied and compared with other major works in the field.
