Performance Evaluation of QoS in IP Networks Using Simulation

Abstract(in English) In recent years, applications with Quality of Service(QoS) requirements have been emerging into the Internet. In connection with it, the necessity of Providing QoS in IP networks is also increasing. However, QoS functionalities are various, and thus we may obtain different results which we don't expect. Our assumption is that the main cause of such impact is the mechanisms, which perform bandwidth allocation. For this purpose, we evaluate the Leaky Bucket and Jumping Window bandwidth control mechanisms, which are actually used in the Internet, using Network Simulator(NS-2). And we compare the simulation results with the real measurement results in the testbed, and we verify the performance advantages of Leaky Bucket over Jumping Window mechanism.
