Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In JPEG coding, quantization errors in decoded images sometimes occur in high frequency regions. Especially, in the color images, the quantization errors of the luminance data are more visible than those of the chrominance data. Therefore, we propose a quality improvement technique for the high frequency regions by adding new codes to reduce the luminance quantization errors. Moreover, to make the number of bits for the new codes smaller, the proposed method calculates them by utilizing fractal image coding. Some simulation results verify that the proposed method can effectively improve the image quality in the high frequency regions and provide the high quality images.
