Skill-based Driver Assistance System : Measurement and Analysis of Driver's Behavior and Strategy on Backing up Parking

Abstract(in English) This paper describes the skill of parking into a garage by backing up. It is most difficult for a lot of novice drivers and women's drivers to park into a garage by backing up or park to a parking lot in parallel because a driver is required careful observation around the vehicle and minute operation of the vehicle. We call the capability of the observation and operation the skill. This research consists of a control experiment by two drivers and the study based on surveys of the previous work on the comparison of the skill between novice drivers and experienced drivers to show the importance of gazing locations and the speed control, and a manual for novice drivers. Experimental result shows the importance of gazing locations and the steering wheel control.
