| Abstract(in English) | This paper describes the safety problems when drivers are looking at the display device of in-vehicle navigation systems. First, authors investigated the looking away time during driving. The experiment reveals that the time is approximately one second regardless of the guidance methods. Second, we propose a method of calculating an estimated length of the time from when a dangerous event happens in front of the vehicle until when the looking-aside driver notices the danger. The calculation results show the delay in braking operation when the drivers watch the in-vehicle navigation display. |
