Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The influence of human factor on the traffic behavior is much dominant. This fact becomes a key issue in analyzing ship traffic. Hence, having a relationship between traffic environment and traffic safety there in a superficial manner does not necessarily give us useful information. It is important to clarify both the relationship between maneuvering behavior and the surrounding environment and the relationship between traffic flow behavior and maneuvering behavior. Form this point of view, this paper reviews major approaches of maritime traffic engineering and discuss some future directions.
