Driving Behavior and Risk Perception of Aged Driver on a Simulator

Abstract(in English) It is said that lack of driver's risk perception against unsafe traffic situations is the major causes of traffic accidents in Japan. On the other hand, establishment of effective assistance for aged drivers has come to be a pressing need because traffic accidents caused by aged drivers have been increasing, In this study, a simple method for estimating the degree of driver's risk perception from driving behavior data was suggested. This method was implemented on a driving simulator named 'TEDDY'. Driving behavior data of aged drivers was collected using 'TEDDY'. Problematic risk perception of aged drivers was investigated by comparing behavior of subjects from three different groups made respectively of aged, non-aged, and driving instructor subjects. The result provided with insight about how driver assistance for aged drivers should be.
