Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Global positioning and navigation satellite systems, with the U.S. GPS at its core, are producing vast civil applications and markets. While apprehensions are being voiced worldwide of its hostile use and the threat of navigation warfare, only limited awareness exists in Japan due to her peculiar sensitivities on security. Their security implications are reviewed, with references to the Japan-U.S. GPS Meetings, EU's 'Galileo System' development, Japanese 'Quasi-Zenith Satellite System' concept and discussions in related international meetings.
