Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Brillouin scattered lights from graded index (GI) fibers have been measured by using a BOTDR which was designed for single mode (SM) fibers. The dependence of Brillouin frequency shift on the strain and temperature was obtained. It was made clear that the measured Brillouin spectra in GI fibers were due to lower order acoustic modes. The strain measurement accuracy and spatial resolution of BOTDR for GI fibers are the same as those for SM fibers. We demonstrate the performance of a strain and temperature sensing system using a BOTDR and a ROTDR. Distributed strain in GI fibers was successfully measured without the influence of temperature variation along the length of a fiber.
