Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical frequency-shift-keying modulator (FSK) based on an optical single-sideband (SSB) modulator realizes external FSK modulation in high speed. We propose, in this paper, optical return-to-zero-FSK (RZ-FSK) modulator, where a push-pull Mach-Zehnder modulator is cascaded to the FSK modulator. In the RZ-FSK format obtained with this modulator, optical level during frequency transition is set to zero, so that siderobe of the modulation spectra is highly suppressed. On the other hand, this technique for optical level control in time domain is also effective to improve the efficiency of ultra-wide-band (UWB) RF pulse generation if every zero is aligned at the center of the duration in each signal bit.
