Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A stress concentration occurs around contact edges between a lateral-pressure plate and an optical fiber during a lateral-pressure test due to the edge curvature of the lateral-pressure plate. It brings about the local bending of a fiber core and results in the transmission loss at the contact edges. Therefore, it is difficult to quantify the real effect of lateral-pressure with the lateral-pressure plate used before. In this study, the effects of edge shapes on the results of the lateral-pressure tests are investigated. The results show that the lateral-pressure plate with low angle wedge is preferable for the lateral-pressure test, because the curvature of a fiber core is small and the transmission loss at contact edge can be neglected.
