Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) All-optical analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion is one of key elements for realization of ultra-fast signal processing and application to photonic network. A/D conversion generally consists of three processes of sampling, quantization and coding. Though an optical sampling technique has been proposed and realized, an optical quantization and an optical coding technique has not been realized. Then, we have proposed the ultra-fast all-optical A/D conversion technique for realization of optical quantization and optical coding by use of self-frequency shifting in fiber and a pulse-shaping technique. In this paper, we show the demonstration of ultra-fast all-optical A/D conversion composed of arrayed waveguide grating and variable optical attenuator. Preliminary experimental results show that 3-lebels different digitized signals can be generated.
