Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Planar lightwave circuits (PLC) based on silica waveguides exhibit low insertion loss and long-term stability. The many developments in this field have led to less expensive PLC technologies with higher performance levels along with advances in photonic network systems. To realize more advanced PLC optical devices we developed IC-on-PLC technology, which enables us to mount IC chips such as electrical driving circuits on the PLC chip surface. Using this technology we can reduce the required electrical wiring space on a PLC and the 1C mounting space on an external electrical circuit, thus making the switch package more compact. Moreover, PLC chips with 1C chips can be provided with high functionality. In this work, we used IC-on-PLC technology to fabricate a PLC optical switch with driving circuits packed into a very small module.
