High-efficiency electro-optic phase modulator with KTN crystal waveguides

Abstract(in English) We have successfully demonstrated a low-driving-voltage electro-optic phase modulator using KTN (Kta_<1-x>Nb_xO_3) waveguide. The waveguide layers for the core and cladding were formed by liquid phase epitaxy techniques. The propagation loss was less than 0.5 dB/cm and the polarization dependent loss was less than 0.1 dB. The EO modulators had a low Vπ of < 2.5 V (3.0-V biased potential, L= 6mm).
