Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed a low cost and small Mechanical Splice for single fiber in order to realize FTTH economically. To achieve low cost, the Mechanical Splice parts are manufactured through injection molding technique with high precision thermoplastic resin. The Mechanical Splice has a mean connection loss of 0.03 dB. Various reliability tests were conducted on this newly-developed Mechanical Splice. The test results confirmed that the Mechanical Splice can be successfully employed in the field. The assembly tool is compact, light-weight (165g), and suitable for use with the aerial closure. Next, we describe the Field-Installable connector and newly-developed compact assembly tool. They will be useful for the economical construction of FTTH.
