Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes an optical fiber identifier with a low insertion loss that is applicable to L-band wavelength communication. We investigated the shape of a bender that generates the emission light needed for fiber identification by bending the optical fiber. This investigation showed that asymmetric bending is effective in reducing the insertion loss without any degradation in detection sensitivity. The insertion loss of the fiber identifier with the asymmetric bender was less than 1 dB at 1.625 μm for fiber ribbon, which is about 1 dB less than that with a conventional symmetric bender. In addition, we also demonstrated that the signal direction can be checked by using this asymmetric bender with a simple configuration.
