Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The increasing demand for large capacity and low cost in optical communication system imposes a great importance on dense and flexible optical wiring, which is realized by optical fibers operatable under small-diameter bending. In this paper, we demonstrate that an MFD matching to SMF's and an ultra-low bending loss are realized by a holey fiber (HF), which has a 80μmφ clad diameter and a very low bending loss of 0.13dB/m at 5mmφ coiling. Moreover, the HF can operate in single mode at 1.3μm, where a multi layers air-holes structure is applied, which can control a fundamental mode bending loss and higher modes bending losses independently. We have also assembled single fiber connectors by contriving process of HF ends and we verified a low splice-loss between HF and SMF.
