Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) As the ability to assemble various components in optical modules at higher density will become increasingly more important, the industry's attention has more recently been focused on multi-fiber connectors. For these use, the authors have developed low insertion loss multi-fiber connectors that can be mass produced by the injection molding of thermoplastic PPS resin. Maximum losses of 0.35dB were achieved on 8-and 12-fiber MPO connectors. To enable further assembly density increase, narrow 180um pitch 16-fiber connectors ware test manufactured for both 125um diameter fibers and downsized 80um diameter fibers. To further improve total reliability, chamfer guide holes and flame-retardant fiber ribbons are also developed.
