Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical fiber grating couplers (FGCs), in which refractive index modulated gratings are written in the tapers of fused fiber couplers, are expected as optical noise reduction filters and optical add-drop multiplexers (OADMs) for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems because of their fast wavelength selectivity. It is also expected that introducing various kinds of compound gratings, that had been recently proposed, to FGCs makes possible to apply FGCs in more complicated optical networks. In this paper, we fabricated dual-period FGCs to multiply FGC functions. We composed an optical filter and an OADM using dual-period FGCs and investigated their characteristics and effects. It was proved that they could be applied to dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems.
