Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A stress concentration occurs around the edges of a lateral-pressure plate during a lateral-pressure test due to the curvature of the lateral-pressure plate. It influences the stress distribution in a fiber core and brings about the transmission loss at the edge. Therefore, it is difficult to quantify the real effect of lateral-pressure. In this study, the effects of edge shapes on the results of this test method are investigated. It is shown that the lateral-pressure plate with low angle corner is preferable for the lateral-pressure test, because the influence of the transmission loss at the edge can be neglected due to the small bending of the fiber core.
