Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We review recent progress on ultra-wide-band tellurite-based fiber Raman amplifiers. First, we confirm that the Ramanscattering characteristics of the tellurite-based fiber has so large gain coefficient and Storks shifts that we can achieve wide-band tellurite-based fiber Raman amplifier with short fiber length as compared with that of using a silica-based fiber. Second, we investigate the small signal gain and the signal transmission characteristics for high gain operation with a simple amplifier. Focusing on a double Rayleigh scattering, we compared the high gain limitation of tellurite and silica-based fibers. Then we studied the impact of nonlinear effects by measuring BER when using a two stage amplifier with a high output power of 18.8dBm. Finally, the amplifiers provided a seamless gain-bandwidth of over 120nm and we confirmed that they could be used as a booster, inline, or pre-amplifier without serious problems. We show that these amplifiers play an essential role in ultra-wide-band seamless DMtransmission with simple transmission lines.
