A Study of Utilization of Holey Fibers

Abstract(in English) For the new possibility in optical fiber applications, Photonic Crystal Fibers attract our attention. For the practical use of Holey Fibers, a kind of Photonic Crystal Fibers, reducing the transmission loss has been an important issue. This paper reports that we have developed an excellent holey fiber with a low transmission loss of 0.35dB/km in the wavelength of 1.55μm. Since our holey fibers showed very small bending losses, we intend to apply them to optical indoor cords. We discussed the fiber joint characteristic and temperature characteristic for the application.
