Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new and simple technique is proposed and demonstrated for reducing pulse timing noise of a mode-locked laser diode using fiber-optic interferometers with an optical path differences much longer than the laser's coherence length. At the output of the interferometer intensities of the two pulse trains are incoherently added giving rise to the cancellation of timing noise at specific Fourier frequencies. The technique does not need electrical nor optical actions to laser diode and is realizable only with passive optical components. Pulse timing jitter of a 19.444 GHz hybrid mode-locked laser is reduced to 0.489 ps (100 kHz - 18 MHz) after passing through the combined ring and Mach-Zehnder interferometers.
