Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we describe the temperature and humidity characteristics of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) both experimentally and numerically. Our experimental results show that the PMD of the test fiber tends to increase with a decrease in ambient temperature or humidity. We also study the wavelength dependence of differential group delay (DGD) with respect to temperature and humidity. Moreover, we clarify that the temperature and humidity characteristics of PMD in DCF are strongly related to strain variation between the fiber coating and fiber glass by comparison with numerical calculation results.
