Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) system for marine adventurer, Mr. Ken-ichi Horie's yacht which sailed across the Pacific Ocean, was developed. DMFC is promising candidates for compact power source, because they do not require any fuel processing equipment and can be operated at low temperature. Original "self-breathing " type DMFC was developed to increase the reliability of the DMFC system. In July. 2002, Mr. Ken-ichi Horie succeeded in solo-sailed across the Pacific Ocean by the MALT's Mermaid III which equiped with this DMFC system. Yuasa DMFC system was able to supply all electricity under the voyage.
