Renormalization Estimation of the Damage on a Node in a Communication Network

Abstract(in English) Networks consist of many nodes and branches. Therefore, analyzing the structure of a network requires a huge amount of computation, so, a network analysis that should be fast, ex, for recover from a disaster, may not be practical. We would like to carry out an approximate analysis on network structures by introducing “renormalization transformation” which is a statistical physics method. We define the capabilities of a network, as a reachability to nodes through paths from a specific node. Moreover, the damage caused in a network is defined as the difference of the capability between before and after the destruction occurring with the probability p. We calculate the expectation values of the network damages with and without the "renormalization transformation", and evaluate the effectiveness of our renormalization-approximated estimation. We obtained good approximation values by our method and expect that our method makes the network damage estimation more rapid because the renormalization reduces the size of the problem.
