Properties and Estimation of Alq3-Based Inverted Organic Light-Emitting Diode Using Polyethyleneimine as Electron Injection Layer

Abstract(in English) The emission and conduction mechanisms were investigated for Alq3-based inverted organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using polyethyleneimine (PEI) as an electron injection layer. Luminescence was observed in the device with PEI layer and was not observed in the device without the PEI layer. Holes is thought to be predominant in the current flowing through the device without the PEI layer including Alq3 layer of an electron transportation. The driving voltage of the device with the PEI layer was about 3V higher than that of the conventional OLEDs. When Alq3 with the electron affinity of 3.1eV is used for the emission layer, electron injection by PEI was insufficient because of high barrier height of electron injection. Partially C540-doped method in Alq3 layer revealed that the carrier recombination region was around the anode side of the Alq3 emission layer. It was considered that the hole current flowing in the device having the PEI was controlled by the electron current flow.
