Abstract(in English) | A tunable antenna that can change its resonant frequency electronically is one of promising components for future wireless communications. Conventional tunable antennas have problems that the return loss characteristic is worse, and the frequency bandwidth is narrower as the resonant frequency is tuned with a varactor diode. To overcome these disadvantages, the co-design approach of tunable bandpass filter and antenna have been applied to a varactor-tuned antenna. However, a constant frequency bandwidth has not been realized yet with a tunable filtering antenna, since frequency characteristics of circuit parameters, such as coupling coefficients, external Q factor, and radiation Q factor, do not meet their requirements determined from a well-established filter theory. This paper proposes a new microstrip tunable filtering antenna having a constant frequency bandwidth, and also presents its design method. As an example, we design a third-order tunable filtering antenna under design specifications of a tuning center-frequency range 1.94-2.16 GHz and a constant frequency bandwidth 60 MHz. The effectiveness of the proposed tunable filtering antenna is verified through fabrication and measurement. |
