Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been shown that sub - nanosecond high - energy pulse compression is possible by using stimulated Brillouin scattering in liquids. In these systems, pulse compression is initiated by stimulated Brillouin scattering with spontaneous Brillouin scattering occurring near the focal point of the focused laser beam input to the Brillouin cells. When an optical fiber is used as a nonlinear medium, pulse compression can be started without relying on spontaneous Brillouin scattering by using various modulation operations, so that high efficiency, highly stable pulse compression is realized. In this study, we confirmed that pump wave of 1 μs duration can be compressed to 14.6 ns width and a peak power of 14 W. Numerical analysis also shows the possibility of pulse compression to hundreds of ps when the time width of the incident Stokes wave is shorter than the phonon lifetime.
