Proposal of Intermodulation Distortion Suppression Method for Wideband Signal Transmission Using Pre-Distortion in RoF

Abstract(in English) Radio base station of the LTE adopts a C-RAN (Centralized-Radio Access Network) configuration. Plural signal processing units (BBU: Base Band Unit) are aggregated in one place, only the radio transmission / reception function unit (RRH: Remote Radio Head) is installed close to the antenna and they are connected by optical fiber link. The CPRI interface is employed as the mobile Fronthaul for connecting BBU and RRH 10 times or more bandwidth compared to the radio frequency bandwidth is requires in optical fiber link due to the number of quantization bits and oversampling. Reduction of the transmission speed in MFH are considered by dividing a part of signal processing functions into RRH, but the device configuration in the RRH side becomes complicated. Therefore, the use of analog RoF (Radio over Fiber) is considered suitable because its latency is low. However, intermodulation distortion(IMD) is one of main constraint in analog RoF. This paper proposes a method to suppress intermodulation distortion based on pre-distortion when building broadband OFDM signal. We compare the characteristics of the proposal and conventional using computer simulation and show its effectiveness.
