High-spatial-resolution Brillouin optical correlation-domain analysis distributed sensor using short-pulse sources

Abstract(in English) As one of distributed optical fiber sensing methods using Brillouin scattering, Brillouin optical fiber correlation-domain analysis (BOCDA) that specifies a Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) measurement point by utilizing correlation between modulated pump and probe waves. In BOCDA using pseudo-random phase modulation, it is known that the spatial resolution of BFS measurement is VgT/2 (Vg is the group velocity of in optical fiber, and T is the bit time of modulation). In this report, experiments show that the spatial resolution can be reduced without increasing the modulation rate (1/T) by using RZ shape instead of NRZ as the modulation method of pump of light and probe waves.
