Survivable Optical Path Networks Utilizing Optical Virtual Links

Abstract(in English) Resilient coarse/fine hybrid granular routing optical network architecture with high spectral utilization efficiency is proposed. Loops of working and backup pairs are iteratively inflated by proposed network design algorithm so as to provide better survivability against locally concentrated multiple failures caused by disasters. Coarse granular routing defines Virtual Direct Links (VDLs) bridging distant nodes which mitigate the spectrum narrowing effect caused by WSS filters at intermediate nodes of VDLs. The impairment mitigation allows to use narrower guard-bands between optical paths, and hence, dense path accommodation is realized. Numerical experiments elucidate that the proposed networks successfully achieve 30+% route diversity improvement and 12% fiber number reduction over conventional networks.
