Consideration of a bent waveguide analysis using the imaginary-distance beam-propagation method with an enhanced amplification factor

Abstract(in English) The imaginary-distance procedure with an enhanced amplification factor is applied to an Yee-mesh-based implicit beam-propagation method. The step size for the desired eigenmode is derived from the amplification factor. A bent Si-wire waveguide is analyzed to show that rough estimation of an effective index enables us to extract a specific eigenmode with several steps. The present method is also compared with the transformed index method, which is often used to analyze a bent waveguide in rectangular coordinates. An Si-wire waveguide whose core is slightly buried from the core/cladding interface is found to be effective for reducing the bend loss.
