[Invited Talk] Visual Communication Technologies with Softwarization

Abstract(in English) Because of emergence of the ultra-high-resolution technologies, high speed mobile communication such as 5G, and diversification of endpoint clients, e.g., PC, smartphone, and wearable device, the visual communication is expected as not only for the classical TV conference but also for the key tool of a work style reforms. The traditional architecture for the visual communication was implemented on the specific hardware on the central building: its restricted environment that targets the specific endpoint terminal and line is not suitable for the future diverse conditions. This paper proposes the flexible and economical common platform for the visual communication, which is empowered by softwarization represented by the virtualization and software defined everything (SDx) technologies. In our architecture, virtualized multipoint control units (MCUs) are deployed distributedly. This leads to a flexible auto scaling against demand variation, improvement of resource utilization, and increase of reliability. The SDx controller controls MCUs, networks, and web APIs. This achieves flexible and efficient operation of distributed MCUs and multiple networks. In addition, collaboration with the web API produces a value from the inorganic digital data through the visual communication.
