Abstract(in English) | This paper presents an implementation and evaluation of a time-aware shaper, a traffic shaper specifically designed for time-sensitive networks, by using a time-based transmission scheme. The traffic shaper prefetches scheduling information based on the IEEE 802.1Qbv standard in advance. With the scheduling information, the shaper precisely controls the time when it should start transmission of each Ethernet frame, especially in a highly punctual manner. Evaluation results show that the proposed shaper triggers transmission of each frame at its intended timing in accordance with a predetermined scheduling information. Furthermore, we have also compared timing accuracy of frame transmission with and without launch-time feature of a network interface card (NIC). Results indicate that the proposed shaper significantly reduces jitter of time-sensitive streams (less than 0.1us) when compared to a baseline implementation without the launch-time feature. |
