Adaptive compensation for angular deflection of OAM beams on mode sorting

Abstract(in English) High resolution mode sorting is an efficient demultiplexing method by using spatial light modulators (SLMs) for beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) such as Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam. The performance of the mode sorting is affected by lateral displacement and angular deflection between the transmitted OAM beam and the receiver caused by the misalignment of components since OAM beam is mainly used in free-space transmission. Therefore, we investigated the influence on the mode sorting performance for LG beam and "perfect vortex (PV)" beam suffering lateral displacement and angular deflection. As a result, strict angular alignment was required since the acceptable angular deflection was approximately ±100μrad. In this paper, we propose a method of adaptive compensation for angular deflection on mode sorting and investigate its performance for LG and PVbeams.
