Abstract(in English) Y4Si2O7N2:Eu3+ phosphor has been synthesized in an NH3 atmosphere. The synthesized sample shows a red emission due to Eu3+ and a broad charge transfer state (CTS) excitation band in the near-UV region. The corresponding CTS energy is about 3.61 eV, which is almost same as 3.58 eV of La2O2S: Eu3+. The PL intensity is furthermore increased by post-annealing in air. From the X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) measurement, it is confirmed that the Eu3+ in the post-annealed phosphor sample is more than 90%. It concludes that stoichiometric N composition is achieved by the synthesis in NH3, resulting in the enhancement of Eu3+ activation.
