[Tutorial Lecture] Theory and applications of modular network self-organizing map

Abstract(in English) A modular network self-organizing map (mnSOM) is an extension and generalization of a Kohonen’s SOM in which each reference unit is replaced to a neural module such as a multi-layer perceptron. In addition, the mnSOM employs a competitive and cooperative learning algorithm of the SOM as the learning algorithm. Thus, the mnSOM generates a map in the function space rather than the vector space. In this paper, the theory and the learning algorithm of the mnSOM are explained. Moreover, the techniques for developing the mnSOM and other extensions are also introduced.
