| Abstract(in English) | Writer's cramp (WC) is a disorder that causes cramps or spasms of certain hand or finger muscles while pen-writing. Recent investigations have demonstrated the use of biofeedback in the treatment of WC, in particular, electroencephalogram (EEG) feedback. The purpose of this study is to clarify the EEG difference between in a WC patients and healthy controls during various hand movements such as pen-writing. A WC patient and 6 young healthy controls participated EEG/EMG recording. The EEG was recorded from 10 locations over hand area of the bilateral sensorimotor cortex and EMG was recorded from forearm and finger muscles of the writing hand. In the results, EEG power spectrum analysis showed a power decrease in mu rhythms. The decrease was occurred equally both hemispheres in the WC patient, however in controls, the decrease was larger on the left (ipsilateral) hemisphere than on the opposite (contralateral) side. The left-right difference were 15% in control and 6% in the WC patient. It was suggested that WC caused high ipsilateral cortical excitability |
