Prospects of Learning Analytics for Higher Education in developing countries.

抄録(英) In the education sector, adoption of Learning Management Systems (LMSs) has turned the traditional teaching and learning more result-oriented and effective. Learning Analytics (LA) has a significant role to play in the future of higher education, where universities and higher education institutions are utilizing such concept to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of educational environment not only to widen their outreach and impact but are challenging learning conventions with significant retention rate and engagement of learners. Although, in the universities of developing nations, such as public universities in Afghanistan evaluation of learners’ behavior is the major issue. Meanwhile, low reliability of educational data and lack of well-defined intervention mechanism into the hybrid?learning environment have made it difficult to?identify?the most significant factors that affecting?the performance of?learners. This study tackles these issues through LA to assess the educational environment and?provide?timely feedback based on learner's behavior from the?actual?data in two running blended courses. Although the overall results have not been completed yet, it?can be?assumed that the analytics results will affect?the academic performance of learners by correlating some of their activities to their?final?grades. The study results?will be used?to report and feedback the educational parties to value?the quality of?teaching and learning, improvement of course materials, increasing learners’ retention rate and accreditation of universities in developing countries.?
