Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) GSSK (Generalised Space Shift Keying) is a modulation scheme used for visible light communications. In GSSK, we use several LEDs as a light source in a transmitter, and we express transmitted information by on-off state of the LEDs. In other words, GSSK transmits information by the position of the lighting LEDs. In GSSK, the receiver cannot distinguish LEDs when they are at the equidistant from thereceiver. To avoid this situation, we have to arrange LEDs carefully so that they can have a different distance from the receiver. This limits the arrangement of LEDs, and it becomes severe when increasing the number of LEDs. In this paper, we will change the light receiving element from a PD (Photo Diode) to a PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) to ease the problem. The PSD is a device that can detect the center of gravity of incident light. Thus, even if some LEDs are at equidistant from the receiver, the center of gravity of incident light is different for each LED, and the receiver can discriminate them by using the PSD. We evaluated communication distance using the PSD and PD. We also researched the BER by evaluating the case of changing the number of LEDs. When using the PSD, we showed that we can distinguish the position of lighting LEDs in the case of equidistant between multiple light sources and receiver. In this paper, we show that communication distance with the three LEDs is shorter by about 0.1m than that with two LEDs when proposed method achieves the same BER.
